Summer time!~ Roller Blades?
hello everyone!~
it's summer time and...fuck it's hot
anyways
I wanted to take up roller blading
I live in Canada (Markham ON)
near General X and Titler I believe
There's a National Sports and a Sports Chek near me
I'm wondering if anyone had any tips or recommends on buying new roller blades. I can Ice skate decently already. I do not plan to skate agressively
(no tricks or ramps or anything). I just want to go really fast around the park
help me out~
(I like Air Gear, lol but it's not why I wanna blade, I don't intend to go 80mph and fly off rooftops, its a nice pic to represent summer!)

Definitely look for soft boot blades. None of that cheap plastic housing stuff you get from Canadian Tires. Soft boots are much more comfortable to
ride in.
Next, look at the bearing rating. They go by standards called ABEC. I believe the most common one is ABEC 5 with ABEC 7 on the higher ends, and ABEC
3 on the lower end blades. Don't know what it stands for, but I know the higher the number, the less friction there is in the bearing so you'll go
further with each push.
Next you'll want to get blade chassis that's made out of metal. Usually stainless steel or some sort of aluminum alloy. They're sturdy and won't
flex like the cheap plastic ones. If you're keen on weight, they also have blades made out of titanium.
If you're gonna get it at sportchek, i'll say K2 is probably the better brand.. don't get none of that firefly shit.
Hope that helps.

^Lol with a national sports, I'm going to assume Woodbine and 16th.
But yeah, I've been wearing K2's for the longest time; never had a problem with them.

-try on several pairs, make sure they fit you snugly without being too tight. and make sure it doesn't cut into your shin. fit makes a huge
difference. it can get pricey with the high-end heat-molded ones though
-find ones with good shock absorption. "road buzz" is fucking annoying
-don't buy hockey blades by accident
-buy some knee/elbow/wrist pads. this isn't ice skating. you WILL fall, and road rash SUCKS.
-first thing to learn is how to stop.
...and wtf there's a rollerblading anime now?

I'm also going to try on some blades this summer because roller blading across UofT campus is a lot better than biking/walking. The most expensive
skates are around $300 at Sports Chek. For the first skate, is it a good idea to get these $300 ones or maybe some crappy ones so when you fall it
won't wreck your nice skates?
