to get a mac or pc?

Recently got into an accident on my motorcycle. It tore open my backpack and smashed my mac screen. as of right now, the apple store quoted me $600 to fix my screen and the mac is about 5 years old. so def. not going to fix it. Im not sure if i should get another mac or get a pc.

I don't play video games. I just use it for school and typical things.
Stick with a mac? or get a pc? opinion outiens?

PC... cuz it does the same thing for cheaper.
If you're into ultrabooks, take a look at the Zenbooks. They're pretty sleek.

Are you talking about PC as in personal computer working station or laptop?

I am assuming you mean laptop.

If you have a smaller budget go with Windows laptop/PC. If you do have the extra cash, go with Mac again. They are more secure against viruses since most virus developers tend to aim towards windows rather than Mac

This generally isn't a problem if you have an anti-virus program and is downloading "safe" things.
Windows is compatible with everything, better support for programs and easier to control.

I think it's really your preference in the decision in whether your the Mac type of guy or Windows and since you've been using your Mac for 5 years now.I'm not trying to lead you to Windows but they are significantly cheaper. You got quoted $600; you can buy a new Windows laptop one with equal or even better specs than your previous Macbook.

You have better support as someone mentioned earlier and allows for more customization. Everyone talks about how Macs are virus free and etc. Well, honestly if you think about it, getting anti-virus software is easy and every computer is usually pre-installed..as long as your not an idiot clicking on all pop-ups and watching porn on unsafe sites, chances are..your not going to get a virus.

The only other reason why I would consider getting a Mac is for their programs like Final Cut Pro.

Usually PC unless you have some specific reasons to get a Mac that don't involve being an iSheep.

Not everything is compatible to iOS

iOS isn't the Mac operating system...

Well downloading is one thing you are right. But often times, users might not be able to distinguish the files. And anti-virus, it does the job too but only against "known" viruses. If the virus isn't known to the software developers yet, the database won't be updated leading you to still being more vulnerable against attacks than if you were on a Mac.

What I forgot to mention though is, you can run Mac IOS on Windows and vice versa. You just need to make sure your device is able to run the operating system. Usually, if you go with a Mac and then have a partition running windows, you usually have less problems since I believe the most recent windows' o/s take less system resources than Mac o/s'

if it's for work or school get a pc, their apps are awsome like oneNote with skydrive.

if it's for entertainment like music, video, normal stuff, get a mac. it's plain simple.

If by any chance ur a programmer, it's fun to program with a Mac : )

be clear and make it not arguable

Whatever you are used to. I prefer working on a mac, because the OS is much more multitasking friendly than windows.

All new systems now come with windows 8. Windows 7 is not even an option anymore.

Any OS you use, there are always alternative software to do what you would like to.

I'm actually quite surprised by the responses here. Most of the time when you ask Mac vs PC questions on forums and you'll get a bunch of PC users slandering Macs- all because they have seen most of their friends switching to Macs, so for whatever reason, they try to stop others from joining as well.

TBH, I hate Windows 7. And I use bootcamp, so I have both Mac/Windows. My workflow just isn't the same when on Windows. I do agree that there are some programs that won't work on Macs and that does become annoying; however that is what bootcamp is for. I'd rather live with an OS I like to use most of the time and switch over to Windows 7 if I need to run something special.

But honestly, if you're even asking this question, maybe it's time to switch back to Windows. I've been on a Mac 3 years now and I never had the thought of switching back.

one thing to consider, if you buy ready built PCs or laptops running windows today, most of them are running on Windows 8. That shit is fucking confusing and not user friendly imo. That is coming from a Windows background. Of course, it might be easier to use if you are using a touchscreen. If you don't got one, then it might not be something for you. My advise, go into the store, play around with the laptops to test out the windows operating systems. If you like it go for it if not, consider downgrading to Windows 7 or below or eventually as we have already spoken stick with Mac.

I don't think Windows 8 is that confusing. Yea, there's new things and you gotta get used to it again since the UI is totally different but the main thing that's changed is the Start menu, the incorporation of multiple "screens" through the use of apps, and the addition of apps.

Like, honestly, you can probably get used to it real quickly, just certain things you used to do might not be done the same anymore. One thing you might wanna keep in mind, Windows 8 is still new so drivers and stuff aren't up-to-date and everything, especially for some software where it isn't "fully compatible" with Windows 8 yet...

i've used macs for 7 years and PCs since their inception. using one over the other will not hinder your work ability, and that drivel about PCs being infected nonstop with viruses is a load of bullshit. I love both Windows 7 and OSX, and now with SSD drives and fusion drives, PCs and Macs both start up near instantaneously.

For you my friend, I think the ONLY question to consider is style.

oh and USB ports. I frankly think the macbooks and macbook pros dont have enough USB ports.

hackingtosh here. best of all worlds imo.

i have windows installed pretty much only for gaming. but i barely do that anymore.

the only down side to hackingtosh is that those 400$ you are saving can equate to 10 hours of work for you.

If you dont use it for anything specific, why would you spend money on a Mac in the first place.

I swear, all the people on campus running around with 2000 dollar Macs that only go on FB and Twitter should be castrated to stop from procreation.

My current laptop that I got around 1 year ago costs 517 after tax and can run Dota2 / Torchlight2 perfectly. Skyrim too, if I wanted it to.

Anyone who uses the virus argument is also braindead since I have used pc since 17 years ago, and have not been hit with a virus I could not just google how to fix in the archaeic days (usually just following instructions into your registry and deleting some shit); or not so recently just System Restore the damn thing.

You can also Virtual Machine your shit if you like the Mac OS.

tl;dr: People with Macs are literally retarded.
Fuck Starbucks too.
