i wanna bring outie back to life
Did some clean up yesterday.. and was hoping i could find something to post on the forum....
but no.. i have no idea what i could be posting. Used to find all those funny things on the net back in the days. Now, everything happens on facebook
and well... most blogs and forums are left to a slow death.

forum was the previous form of SNS, when facebook came to life, it was the beginning of the end of forums. except for those forums with specific
topics, sadly outie wasn't one of them, all you see on outie was new posts in the alley, which are easily replaced by facebook
and outie himself seemed to have given up too, unless outie allows you to use outienet's user base, which i believe there are still quite a few
visiting outie, to build something new, otherwise i can't think of a way to bring it back

Outie did try to bring this back with outie 2.0... r/outie, but that didn't seem to work out and the project has been abandoned since.

I think forums can still exist but it needs a central topic that the site is based on. I still go on forums on various sites and although their
popularity is on the downhill, they still have loads of posters. Every site that still has active forums has a particular emphasis that a community
is interested in. Then there are sub forums that branch out like general chat. What makes it good is that you are talking about these broad topics
knowing that everybody is part of a community that likes _____ (fill in the blanks).
Outie has no focus, nobody knows what this site is about. It thrived back in the day because it was the days before reddit and facebook were
popular.
Edit: Outie also thrived because it had a tight community where you could recognize different posters. There were different personalities on the
forum but they eventually lost interest in outie or were driven away. Nowadays, I don't recognize any of the posters, each post is by a random
person I dont know just like how you guys don't know me.

Outie died not because of Facebook, Twitter, or Reddit. There are many forums out there that are still thriving. Outie died simply because the thread
output decreased so much due to the continuously leaving members. The problem is no one replaced those members. And even when old members come back
to visit on forums, they never post either so it's moot.
The only reason I go on outie once every full moon is because of muscle memory of typing "outie.net." I'll be at work and OOPS...

Bringing outie back to life through posting of interesting stuff will not work because you are competing with reddit and other evolving media
outlets.
You can only bring it back to life by making discussion topics. Which seems unlikely as all the mature members bailed long time ago.

I think the problem is that for most of the members, they joined while in high school senior year. By now, we are busy working or got other things in
our mind. From what I remember, most of the members active when outie was quite strong were people starting university or already in university.
I still remember when coming here after school and see all new links in the Latest topics.
Life is not a grant, is a loan...you need to pay it back, you know.
