Asian Wedding, who pays?

I was just curious whether any of you have experience on who will cover the expenses for the engagement/wedding for traditional Asians.

I've heard mixed results such as:

- Bride side pays for engagement & wedding
- Groom side pays for engagement & wedding
- Bride side pays for engagement, Groom side for wedding
- 50/50 split but this i believe is more a modern thing
- Bride side will pay but if they don't have the money then groom will pay if he makes more money.

How are things usually set up? Do you usually go to the bride side and negotiate prior to the engagement about who covers what?

I believe every Asian country or maybe even villages may vary in this aspect. Your thoughts?

for Chinese...I believe it was supposed to be groom's side paying...but that is becoming more and more phased out because no one does that sort of thing anymore. If anything, people do 50/50 split. I mean, it's a once in a life time thing, so if you can afford it, spend it. Doesn't matter which side makes more or less...

Agree with ShogunGT. However, divorce rates are higher than ever these days so think twice if that is the person you really want to be with :P

then groom pays for the wedding and bride has NO SAY to how the wedding is done.
